For your industry
AEO for agencies: white-label the whole department.
Clients are asking about AI visibility. The answer isn't hiring a specialist team — it's running one on rails: a per-client autonomous department at $549/month for 10 clients, under your brand.
Updated 2026-08-11 · Prices and data verified 2026-08-11
An agency doesn't need to hire an AEO team to sell AI visibility work. The Agency tier runs a department per client — daily scans of each client's buyer questions across all six AI engines, prepared schema, FAQ and landing-page artifacts your team approves before anything publishes, white-label portals under your brand — at $549/month for 10 client projects. That works out to $54.90 per client in software cost — plain arithmetic on our published price — against the $2,000–6,000/month agencies typically bill for this work (2026 market research).
The Monday a client asks about ChatGPT
The question is already arriving in status calls: “why doesn't ChatGPT recommend us?” and “what are we doing about AI search?”Clients hear their own customers say “ChatGPT sent me,” they ask the assistant about their category, someone else's name comes back — and the agency of record is expected to have an answer.

Our reading: the service line named itself while most agencies were busy shipping SEO retainers. The demand formed faster than the staffing did.
The awkward part for an SEO-led agency is that the results you've already earned don't carry over:
77%
of businesses ranking on Google page 1 are invisible in ChatGPT

Which cuts both ways for an agency: your best SEO wins are undefended in AI answers — and your pitch to every client on page 1 writes itself.
When a client asks what this discipline even is, send them the plain-English explainer; when they ask why they're absent, the six causes are laid out in why businesses don't show up in ChatGPT. This page is about the harder question: how an agency turns those conversations into a service line without hiring for it.
How agencies package AEO today: three pricing models
The pricing knowledge in this market lives in guides written for agencies, teaching them what to charge. Read together, they document three packaging models:
- The retainer uplift. AEO sold as a 20–30% increase on an existing SEO retainer (ALM Corp agency guide, 2026). Lowest friction — the client already trusts you — and the model most exposed to the fulfillment question, because the uplift rarely funds a new hire.
- The standalone retainer. The agency-side guides put GEO retainers anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 per client per month depending on scope and market, and advise building a 50–70% gross margin into them (Frizerly and Pierview pricing guides, 2026). The client-side anatomy of what those retainers contain is on the AEO services page.
- Project plus retainer. A one-time audit or setup engagement, then a smaller monthly fee. At the platform-services end of the market, setup fees of $2,500–15,000 are reported on top of the monthly contract (SubscribePR, 2026).
Every model hits the same wall: fulfillment. Whichever way the invoice is shaped, someone has to research the prompts, write the pages, ship the schema, submit to indexes, and re-check six engines — per client, every month. Agencies solve that three ways: hire a specialist, stack monitoring tools and keep the writing in-house, or run the work on autonomous rails. The tool-stack route has real costs of its own once per-engine add-ons land — the math is in the AI visibility tool pricing teardown. The rest of this page is about the third option.
The margin arithmetic, on published prices
Disclosure: AEO Action publishes this page and sells the Agency tier it describes — read what follows as a vendor's own arithmetic, and check it against the free audit before believing any of it.
One more number matters for how you position the retainer itself. The recurring fee is defensible because the work genuinely recurs:
40–60%
of the sources AI engines cite change every month

Our reading: AEO is a standing service line, not a project — which is exactly what makes it retainer-shaped for an agency, and exactly why one-time audits under-serve the client.
What runs per client: a department, not a dashboard
Each of the 10 client projects gets the same loop, stated with its limits:
- Daily measurement. 50of the client's buyer questions — regenerated from their business profile each scan — run daily across all six engines: up to 7,500 live answer captures per client per month from the five live engines, with ChatGPT and Gemini read through their live consumer interfaces. Claude is a labeled model-mode read of how the model understands the brand long-term, never counted as live.
- One prepared move per client per day.The orchestrator picks the highest-value move from that client's scan and prepares the full artifact — schema, an FAQ page, a landing page, or a Reddit pack — into an Approve Queue. Nothing publishes without approval, which means your team keeps editorial control of every client site without doing the drafting.
- Publishing, stated exactly. Direct publish to Webflow and Squarespace (Squarespace requires its Business plan). On WordPress — most client sites — our plugin pulls approved schema hourly and drafts every six hours; we never push into a client's site. Everywhere else, including Wix: finished HTML and schema ready to paste, and we verify it went live.
- Indexing.Approved pages are submitted to Bing via IndexNow within minutes. Submission is our part — whether and when to index is Bing's decision, and any vendor phrasing it differently is overselling.
- Receipts, per client. Every approved landing page is registered against its target question and re-checked on each following scan for up to 120 days: shipped on date A, first cited on date B. That dated receipt is the difference between a client report and a client renewal argument.
The manual version of that loop — prompt research, drafting, schema, index submission, re-checks across six engines, per client, every week — is exactly the specialist labor this page opened by saying you don't have to hire for.
The agency layer: your brand on the outside
Around the per-client departments sits the layer built for the agency itself:
- White-label client portals. Your name, logo, and color on revocable read-only links. The weekly report each client reads in the portal — printable to PDF — is written in plain English from real logged events, which makes it the artifact your client forwards internally when budgets get questioned.
- A cross-client portfolio dashboard with drop alerts, so the account team learns about a visibility drop before the client does.
- A read-only REST API with signed webhooks — feed scan data into the reporting stack you already run.
- An embeddable lead-gen widget. Put a free AI-visibility audit on your own agency site and let prospects diagnose themselves into your pipeline.
- Fourteen vertical playbooks — question sets, competitor patterns, and asset plans per industry — so a new client in an unfamiliar vertical starts from a map rather than a blank page.
Those verticals are also where your clients live: the library's industry pages for law firms, dentists, med spas, and accountants double as client-education material you can send before a pitch.
When a monitoring stack is the right pick instead
Honest fork: if your agency already has fulfillment — writers who ship, a technical SEO who handles schema, someone who owns publishing — then you don't need finished work, you need measurement, and monitoring-first tools are genuinely the better buy. Trakkr's flat model is the strongest version of that pitch: all eight of its models at $100/mo with no per-engine add-ons, and white-label portals arriving on its $500/mo Scale tier. Peec AI runs daily tracking from $95/mo with unlimited seats, which suits agencies that want many eyes on one dashboard — extra engines are priced by tier as add-ons.
The fork to price is monitoring versus finished work. A monitoring stack tells your team what to build; the building, publishing, indexing, and re-checking stay on your payroll. The ledger below puts the two purchases side by side at agency scale.
Start without betting the agency
The zero-cost first step is evidence, not a pitch deck. Run the free audit on two or three existing clients: ten buyer questions across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity — 30 live queries in about three minutes, no account, no email, no card. The report shows the three most revealing answers word-for-word with the client's name (or their competitor's) highlighted, worked examples, and a 30-day plan. The PDF is permanent; the share link lives seven days — long enough to land in the next status call.
If the scans bite, the 7-day Agency trial opens three client slots — no card, cancel anytime — so the full loop proves itself on real clients before you pay or pitch anything. Set client expectations honestly from day one: in practitioner testing, newly indexed pages have shown a median of about 6.8 days to a first ChatGPT citation, with roughly 42% of pages cited within 30 days (Semrush / practitioner testing, 2026) — an observation from the field, not a promise, and the same honesty your clients should hear from you. If a client asks whether any of this is worth paying for, treat it as the fair question it is and answer with their own scan data, not a pitch.
